To wrap up the unit, students viewed portions of the silent movie Modern Times.
As a bit of a review for the 1920s unit, students examined and organized information on a number of topics from the era. Using p. 51 of the binder, students read about the indicated sections and wrote down a) what happened and b) how it fits in (or contradicts) our understanding of the themes of the 1920s.
Students also got time to work on the core assignment that is due tomorrow. After more project work time, students listened to some 1920s music and viewed clips from 1920s silent movies. Core assignment #5 was handed out today - it is due on Friday.
After working on their projects, students examined some culture stations and answered questions in their binders.
Today's topic was the 1920s economy. We looked at trends, terms, and discussed how these ideas contribute to our narrative of the 1920s as the emergence of modern America. This work can be found on p. 46 of the binder.
For an introduction to the 1920s, students viewed part of a video on the decade while writing down examples of conservative and flamboyant aspects the era as the saw them. These notes were written on p. 44 of the binder (the new 1920s binder packet is below).
