Today was another day for students to work on their Quarter 1 projects.
Today, students took the quiz for the Imperialism and WWI units.
To review for the quiz tomorrow, students worked on the last few pages of their WWI binder packet. These pages ask students to organize the information from the Imperialism and WWI units in a way that will hopefully lead to greater retention for the quiz tomorrow.
To wrap up the war, students examined the peace process.
First, students read through and re-worded several of Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points. We then discussed how they exemplified Wilson's vision of a balanced post-war world. Students then read about the actual Treaty of Versailles, what was in it, and how it led to WWII. Pages 36-39 were used today and should be completed by anyone not in class today. A reminder that Core Assignment #4 is due tomorrow and the Imperialism/WWI quiz is on Wednesday. For the first half of class, students were given an opportunity to start making decisions for their Quarter 1 projects. Several more chances to work in class will be given in the coming weeks.
The second half of class was devoted to viewing portions of the WWI movie The Lost Battalion. Class was again divided into two parts today. The first part was devoted to a discussion about the new technological developments during WWI. Absent students should view the video below, though no notes were taken by students in class. The second part of class was spent giving students time to read about and write down information on the efforts of the US to support the war effort. Students used the book section starting on p. 598 and binder p. 35. Today's class was divided into two parts. The first part focused on how and why the United States entered WWI. Students took notes based on a PowerPoint (see the notes video below) to complete a notes sheet in class. The notes sheet is attached below. The second half of class was devoted to exploring WWI propaganda.
After reviewing the causes of WWI from Friday, students spent time viewing a video on WWI that focuses on the soldier experience of the war. The video can be found below. The Quarter 1 project was also assigned. It will be due on Tuesday, March 20 - after spring break. We will spend some time in class working on it, but not enough to complete the entire project. More details about the project will be forthcoming.
Our focus today was the start of WWI in Europe. We worked through the PowerPoint below; students took notes on p. 29-31 of the binder. Students also completed the map on p. 32. |
