The Cold War test was taken today.
Today was a review day for the test tomorrow. The review sheets can be found at the end of the Cold War binder pages.
To finish up the Cold War unit, we looked at the Counterculture movement of the late 1960s. We also listened to some 1960s music as a way of beginning our review process for Tuesday's test.
After briefly discussing the information that was studied yesterday, we looked at the legacy of the Vietnam War, especially as it concerned veterans. The 2nd Quarter project was also handed out today - a copy can be found below.
To follow up on our discussion about the Vietnam War, students investigated and organized information about the ground war, the air war, the Tet Offensive, and the policy of Vietnamization. Students also created arguments regarding the benefits and downsides of the war.
Students also watched portions of Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam. As we start to wind up the Cold War unit, students learned about the origins of the Vietnam War. See the video below for the notes from class. To further our discussion of the Civil Rights Movement, we watched the short film A Time for Justice, which covers many of the important events of the era as well as the drive to get African American in the South the vote.
To start our look at the Civil Rights movement, we discussed several important terms, like nonviolence and civil disobedience. Students then read through and organized information on some of the most important trends and events of the movement, such as Little Rock, Montgomery, and Birmingham. If absent today, please use the textbook to take notes on the appropriate pages in your binder.
We finished Thirteen Days, then followed that up with an article that presents an alternate analysis of the causes of the Cuban Missile Crisis. A discussion followed.
To illustrate the enormity of the Cuban Missile Crisis, we began viewing the movie Thirteen Days which dramatizes the Kennedy White House during the crisis. We will finish this up tomorrow.
