After spending two days on immigration, today we turned our attention to the growing cities of the Gilded Age. As a class, we read through the testimony of a tenement dweller (below) and listed the problems associated with living in Gilded Age tenements. Then, students wrote a paragraph on which problem was the most significant (needed the most immediate attention) and why. This was all done on p. 15 of the binder.
Students then began viewing portions of The 1900 House, which depicts life at the turn of the century for a middle class family.
